Otak-Otak Place | Food & Memories You Love

Otak-Otak Place. It’s a step back in time to the good taste, and all the things we liked best. It’s about reminiscing with the simple, yet memorable things we used to have. Our favourite foods like the different Otak-otak selections, piping hot nasi lemak, yummy roti jala, spicy mee rebus, to rich Curry Laksa and more! And remember the crunchy biscuit we dipped into our Kopi-O Kaw or hot Milo?

All these are yours to indulge once more at the Otak-Otak Place. Here, you’ll be surrounded by memorabilia like schoolbooks, Elswick bicycles our grandfathers used to ride, tiffin carriers mum always carried to the roadside stall, green toy soldiers, happy family play cards and Batu Seremban we played with our siblings. The old songs we used to listen to, the unbreakable bonds between family and friends when we ate together, played together.

Indeed – it’s yesterday once more at Otak-Otak Place. The good memories are never lost. And like great foods of the past – they’re here - just waiting for you to discover.

Back in the good old days, the tiffin carrier was the handy lunchbox. They were so convenient, functional and stylish! The Happy Family playcards was the card game that kept family members together most nights. There was no internet or electronic games back then, remember? The trusty old bicycle, our reliable means of transport everywhere. The rage then was the red coloured tumbler that can hold mum’s favourite snacks! And everybody back then had green soldiers to play with, and had imaginary battles! The guli or glass marbles with colourful stripes were the boys’ pastime game whilst the Batu Seremban or five stones which were tossed to the air and skillfully caught were more preferred by girls. And oh – the paper plane. Deftly folded and shaped to look, soar and cruise like an air plane. The good old days are now back again at Otak-Otak Place!

It seemed like only yesterday when mum served us the best food we will always remember. Breakfast was like eggs and toast downed with hot milo or kopi-O! For lunch -the unmistakable santan aroma of nasi lemak served with curry chicken would make us giggle with delight! Delectable laksa noodles rich in gravy, lots of prawns and other condiments. We’d also argue with our siblings over fried chicken wings or chicken chop, and of course potato wedges. After that – we’d be treated with our favourite desserts! Cincau, barley water, and sometimes, Bottle fruit juice or Abc special. But the in-between snacks were amazing! Steamed Otak-Otak, Otak-Otak Rolls, Otak-Otak Dumplings or our must have Otak-Otak sticks work up our appetite again. Those memorable days, with the good old taste are back again. Of course, at the Otak-Otak Place!
